Botanical Name
Schefflera arboricola ‘Variegata’
Description
The variegated Schefflera arboricola is a lush, tropical houseplant known for its glossy green leaves splashed with creamy yellow or white variegation. Its foliage grows in a circular, umbrella-like pattern, creating a full, sculptural look that brings a tropical vibe indoors. Mature plants can reach 3–6 feet indoors but can be kept more compact with pruning.

Light Requirements
Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate lower light levels but will lose some of its variegation and become leggy. Avoid hot, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Do not overwater—Schefflera dislikes soggy soil. Empty saucers after watering to prevent root rot. In winter, water less frequently.
Humidity & Temperature
• Prefers moderate to high humidity, but adapts well to average indoor levels.
• Ideal temperature range: 60–80°F
• Keep away from cold drafts and heating vents.
Growth & Maintenance
• Prune to shape or to encourage bushier growth.
• Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust.
• Rotate the plant periodically for even growth.
• Can be trained as a small tree or left full and bushy.
Fun Fact
Its nickname “umbrella plant” comes from the way its leaflets radiate from a single point, like spokes on an umbrella.
