Your subscription plant for August is:
Curio rowleyanus f. variegatus 'Variegated String of Pearls'
Mailed anywhere in the US - or picked up at Above the Dirt Garden Shop.
Light: Bright, indirect light with a few hours of morning sun. Direct afternoon sun could scorch them, but a strong light source will help maintain the cream-colored variegation.
Water: Allow soil to dry completely before watering thoroughly. Reduce watering through the winter months.
Humidity: Average household humidity is ideal - around 30-50%. High humidity and soggy soil can cause rot.
Temperature: Prefers between 65 and 80 degrees. Protect from temperatures below 50 degrees, cold drafts, and frost.
Growth Tip: Use a shallow pot with drainage and a fast-draining succulent mix. Keep the top of the pot exposed to light so the crown stays full rather than becoming bare and leggy.
Why we love it: Each pearl also has a translucent “window” that allows light to permeate deeper into the leaf for photosynthesis. When these windows close, that’s a sign it’s ready for thorough watering.
