Variegated Hoya Bilobata 4

Mailed anywhere in the US - or picked up at Above the Dirt Garden Shop.

Botanical Name

Hoya bilobata ‘Variegata’

Description

The variegated Hoya bilobata is a rare and collectible tropical plant known for its tiny, thick, oval-shaped leaves with occasional creamy white, pink, or light green variegation. Its trailing, vine-like growth habit makes it perfect for hanging baskets or cascading over shelves. Like other Hoyas, it can produce clusters of small, star-shaped pink flowers with a sweet fragrance once mature and happy.

Light Requirements

Bright, indirect light is essential for maintaining its variegation. Morning sun or filtered light from an east or west window is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves, but don’t place it in low light, variegation may fade.

Watering

Allow at least the top two inches of soil to dry before watering again.
    •    Water thoroughly, then let the pot drain completely.
    •    Overwatering is the most common cause of problems.
    •    In winter, reduce watering frequency as growth slows.

Humidity & Temperature
    •    Prefers medium to high humidity (50–70%). A small humidifier or pebble tray can help.
    •    Thrives in temperatures between 65–85°F
    •    Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F.

Growth & Maintenance
    •    Slow-growing but very rewarding once established.
    •    Ideal for hanging planters or trailing displays.
    •    Prune lightly to control length, avoid removing the short spurs (where flowers bloom).
    •    Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep the variegation bright.

Fun Fact

Hoyas are sometimes called “wax plants” for their glossy, almost artificial-looking foliage and flowers. Hoya bilobata originates from the Philippines, where it grows as an epiphyte in humid tropical forests.
